Yesterday we talked a lot about this new "game" emerging on Instagram called "The Elimination Game." We looked at a modified article, "The Elimination on Instagram is Unkind."
Our grade 4/5 students became researchers and analyzers as we broke up into small groups and read the article. We talked about the article's main message and what the "big picture" is when it comes to these unhealthy online games.
"It's just a game," is something that we clearly ruled around. We talked about the effects that these types of games have on our mental wellness, self-confidence and personal image.
Our Final Thoughts:
- we need to model by building people up, not bringing them down
- no one should put a rating or number on you
- we understand that these games can cause mental and emotional damage
- focus on online messages and actions that promote self-confidence
- no one has the right to "rate" you
- be reflective and ask yourself if you are being the best version of you when you are both on & offline
- remind to ask yourself if what you're doing online is true, helpful, inspiring, kind and respectful
